Sharpen Up Tutoring is committed to helping students succeed!  Founded by Debra Brewer, a credentialed teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Sharpen Up Tutoring uses proven educational techniques and practical experience to instruct children. Debra Brewer believes that each child is unique, and needs individualized, personalized attention to help them achieve success.  When a child begins to understand something that previously confused him or her, then the child feels success.  This helps build the child's self-esteem and encourages the child to continue learning, growing, and taking more chances to explore.  At Sharpen Up Tutoring, your child is seen as an individual, and natural strengths are identified and built upon. 

Debra Brewer received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Deaf Education, with a cognate in mathematics.  She has spent 6 years teaching special needs children, both in public and private schools.  She also has 10 years of experience tutoring students of varied ages and subjects.  These subjects include elementary through college level math, reading, biology, chemistry, English, speech and language, and home schooled students.

All tutoring is done in the child's home or at the local library.  This ensures a quiet environment where the child feels comfortable and can focus on learning.  Individualized, one-on-one attention also ensures that your child remains engaged.

Sharpen Up Tutoring focuses on building confidence, motivation, focus, and problem solving skills. Students are not simply told the answer, but are asked questions and given clues to find the answer themselves.  This helps build students' confidence and helps them remember the information in the future.  Teachers share successful strategies with students so they can succeed on their own. A friendly, warm, and enthusiastic teaching style creates a safe and supportive atmosphere for your child.
